Eula
Mae (Martin) Beall (b June 11, 1911, d October 10, 1988)
Eula Mae spent her early years on the farm, where "In bad weather
papa would put me on the mule and lead me to school." Later they
moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In
Tulsa, on Feb 15, 1932, Eula Mae married Hallie Odis Beall, a brick
mason. (At some point both Eula Mae's grandmother Marilla and Hallie's
mother Martha moved nearby.)
Under
the influence of Marilla and Martha, and especially to keep busy
while Hallie was away fighting in World War II, Eula Mae quilted.

But
sometime after the war, and after the deaths of her grandmother
in 1950 and mother-in-law in 1951, Eula Mae put away the quilt frame
and never set it up again. Yet, every spring she carefully, lovingly,
aired and refolded all of the quilts and tops.
And,
she channeled her creative sewing time into crocheting and making
clothes for her daughter.
She
had never quite gotten over the death of her mother, Katie, and
perhaps this is why she was especially supportive and encouraging
to Carol, her only child. Eula Mae managed to pass on her love of
sewing, crafting, gardening and taking pictures to her daughter.
