never counted the patches, but my mother, Eula Mae, called this her friendship
quilt. She explained that she supposedly could only gather one piece of
fabric from each friend (but, of course, friends are generous!). She hand
pieced it, probably during World War II, but never managed to get it quilted
and gave it to me. Finally, around 1985 I put it into the quilt frame and
began hand quilting it, but had to take it out when we moved cross-country
