| "When I look at the old quilts and unfinished tops handed down from my mother and grandmothers, I find memories. There are bits of the printed flour sacks I was allowed to sew into doll clothes and aprons. There are pieces from dresses that I remember my favorite aunt sewed for my birthday. Some of the tops have such mismatched colors I have to shake my head--then picture my great-grandmother during the depression, doing her creative best with scraps of nothing and no sewing machine-and I'm thankful that I'm able to buy just the fabric I visualize for a quilt, and zip it up on a fancy machine. But will my quilts be as meaningful? I hope so." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
