Sometimes
you just have to buy that beautiful fabric, with no idea where it's going.
This is one of those quilts. Carol isn't a sea person, but loved the colors
in the sea prints, collecting them for 5 years before they demanded to
be put together. When she saw the fabric that looked like tile under water,
"That's it! That's it!" was her reaction. However, she couldn't
buy it that day, the shop ran out and couldn't get any more, and she had
to track down a mail order supplier to finally find it again. (Thank you
Keepsake Quilting!)
To add a
little humor and make the quilt 3-dimensional, she appliquéd fish
and shells, then used fabric dye markers to create the cast shadows. There
are even a few lost Roman coins appliquéd on the sea bottom.
