Blazing Star Top Quilt

2. Label, label, label! Imagine inheriting a closet full of quilts and unquilted tops, and not being sure which grandmother or aunt made them. Aaargh! To make it even worse, move a few times and get them mixed with unlabeled quilts and tops from your husband's family. So, please, no matter how small the project, label it. Think of your poor great-great grand-daughter. Try to develop one of these two habits:

a. When first beginning the quilt top, take a piece of muslin and a pigma pen, and record all pertinent information: Working name of quilt, name(s) of blocks used, date began, your name, city, state, and the occasion quilt is being made for. Add anything else of interest. Then keep this with the quilt in progress, and if it will be a few days (stretching to years) before it gets quilted, baste this muslin label to the top so that it won't get lost.

b. When planning and cutting out the quilt, design a matching label to go on the back. It can even be sewn before the quilt top! Record all information except for the completion date-to be filled in later.

This wonderful Blazing Star was probably made by my Great-Grandmother Marilla, but could have also been done by one of my husband's family.
