Before moving
to Las Vegas, Carol was a member of the Marquette County Quilters, in
Michigan's Upper Peninsula. In 1982 the guild held a block contest asking
for designs pertaining to the local area, with the winning blocks to be
combined into a wall hanging.
Carol's hand
appliquéd lady slipper design (upper left corner) was one of the
blocks chosen. The wall hanging was hand quilted by the guild at public
events during the time when Carol's mother, Eula Mae, just happened to
be visiting from Oklahoma. Eula Mae was able to add a few quilt stitches-and
was even caught in the act by the local tv station and appeared on the
news!
The quilt
appeared in the book Michigan Quilters and their Designs, as well as the
Fall 1983 Quilt World Omnibook magazine. The same magazine issue also
showed Duck Wheel (another of Carol's designs), one of her quilt poems,
and some of her photos of the guild's 1982 quilt show.
