Pirate Treasure

Ahoy Matey!

Create yer own personalized pirate flag like the real pirates used to do.

There’s a choice of three skulls with or without bandannas, eyepatches and hats.  Look for bones, swords, an anchor, compass rose, boot, hourglass, ship, parrot, palm trees, hook, a full skeleton and of course the treasure chest and a treasure map ... and more.

Suggestions and illustrations are also given for recombining designs into a row quilt, scenic wall hanging or a block quilt.

Quilters working on Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) projects will also find the pattern a good design source.

Need a quick gift for your family pirate?  Make a pirate flag pillow using the Pirate Treasure designs and the following directions.  These are not given in the pattern.

Use a regular bed pillow form, approximately 18” x 24” or larger.  Measure the form to be sure of the size, and use those measurements plus ½” to 5/8” seam allowance per side (and an extra inch for ease if desired) to cut out the background fabric.  Use the pirate designs of your choice on one or both sides.  Follow the pattern instructions for finishing the appliqués.  Then place the right sides of the fabric together and sew the side seams, leaving one end open to add the pillow form. Hand sew the opening shut.  Or, if desired, sew a zipper into the end seam before sewing the side seams together.  Make each side of the pillow a different color or design for added interest.

To expand your pirate quilt choices even farther, check out the mermaids, fish and seashells in the Mermaid’s Garden pattern.

There’s also a free octopus design on our free pattern page.
